Aligning Memories

Cedar Ridge Cultural Hotspot Artist in Residence Jihee Min culminates her summer residency with her solo show Aligning Memories. The exhibit explores the complex relationship between time, memory, culture and place – depicting the artist's attempt to communicate with historic Cedar Ridge.
Min's two months working in the Gardener's Cottage at Cedar Ridge Creative Centre was spent researching historical archives of the over-a-century old mansion to create a unique storyline in the form of sculptural paintings and photography. Aligning Memories' main body of work consists of paintings on multiple Popsicle sticks that when shown aligned bring together a once fragmented past to expose a tangible history. Min has also photographed historical objects found on location, creating imprints of memories of the former inhabitants of Cedar Ridge, including her own.
