I am an Asian female living in a multicultural society. My desire to assimilate results in the act of sharing visual stories, blending boundaries between audience and artist. I attempt to convey the complexity of a displaced culture by employing narrative strategies and self-referential contents in my work, and I hope to raise cultural awareness by inciting a ground of understanding.
I am obsessed with the use of colour as a reoccurring material in my practice. The concept of colour has been embedded in my life, representing racial labeling, shame, stereotyping, as well as wonder and fantasy. The primary and bright bold colours purge the grey memories of fear and discrimination; and they explore naivety and curiosity in the scenes I create. With vibrant colour, I hope to transform the absurdity of race and multiculturalism into a unique tales.
